Jesus Club Update | July 2021
How we’ve been meeting during the COVID pandemic:
Since the implementation of the circuit breaker in April 2020, both our clubs at Serangoon and Kembangan put a pause on physical meetings. This was especially hard for many of our members, who see fellowship times as the highlight of their fortnight. It was also hard for small groups with concrete learners to conduct discussions online.
Transiting to virtual meetings and adjusting to the changing guidelines had its frustrations, but we are thankful for the new opportunities it presented us with. We visited homes, spent a bit more time getting to know our caregivers, and were able to hear soft-spoken members more clearly over zoom. We thank God for online platforms which allow us to continue deepening our friendships and continue learning about the bible together.
In the past year, the Kembangan club learnt more about God’s power to save his people through the book of Exodus. The speaker pre-records their video talk for the session, which is then viewed and discussed in small groups (over Zoom or in homes). They finish each term with an all-in Zoom meeting. Where possible, volunteers and members would catch up over a meal.
The Serangoon club learnt about being steady Christians through the book of James. They alternate between large and small group zoom sessions, with live talks at the larger gathering, followed by discussion and prayer during the small group sessions. When they were able to, some groups would also meet to hang out for fun!
We hope and pray that we would be able to meet in person again soon. In the meantime, we will not give up meeting virtually, spurring one another on toward love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:23-25), because we are God’s family and we need one another.
